Historical schooner Bowdoin is a state asset
The Bowdoin recently undertook a short tour of Maine’s coastline, stopping in Portland and Bath so that the public could explore the ship and get a taste of the state’s maritime history, the historical schooner, built in 1921 and operated by the Maine Maritime Academy, is a historical jewel with a rich and fascinating history.
Nowadays ships are built to be big and imposing, the Oasis-class cruise ship Oasis of the Seas, the biggest cruise ship in the world at 47 meters wide, 360 meters long and capable of carrying 6000 passengers and the Mærsk E-class container ship Ebba Mærsk at 397 meters long and 47 meters wide, have set benchmarks in the size of these various kinds of ships.
